Devils 0 Horley Haemaphrodites 1
Devils lost out to an early goal as Horley Haemaphrodites
maintained their unbeaten start to the season in the Thursday
Sixes on Thursday (22nd).
Devils created more scoring opportunities than in last week's
cup draw against the same opposition but couldn't make one count
to take something from this match. In the end Horley picked up
the win thanks to a goal inside the first two minutes as no
further goals were added despite both teams having a number of
worthwhile attempts on goal.
Despite having most of the play last week it took Horley till
the last kick to score but this week saw the opposite scenario
as with their first attack the main striker jinked himself space
and placed a shot low into the bottom corner.
Devils came back well and worked the Horley keeper far more than
in last week's game. However he was on good form and made saves
to deny Luis, Alec and Mike in the first half. At the other end
Horley always carried a threat through their man striker and he
brought a good low save from Phil while another move found an
overlapping man down the left but his shot went behind via the
keeper's boot.
After half-time the game meandered without too much direction
and few opportunities came about in an opening spell where the
pace dropped. However as the half progressed Devils pushed on
more and some opportunities were crafted, albeit under pressure
from a well organised defence that protected its lead well.
The
closest two efforts came in the final five minutes as Framps
wriggled shooting space free of the defence and brought a sharp
stop from the keeper who spread himself well and then the keeper
got just enough on Dave's shot to turn it behind after a Devils
corner. |
