Devils XI announce new boss as Frampton signs on the dotted line
Sporting Devils Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Dave Frampton as new manager of the Sporting Devils XI for season 2008/2009.

Dave, 48, joined Devils in June 2007 and has since become an integral part of the 11 aside set-up as well as a regular member of the Oblivion squad on Thursday nights. Dave brings to the manager's role a wealth of experience in Crawley League and County League football.

Dave's first task will be to build on the XI's first season in the Crawley & District League and strengthen the existing squad with some invaluable experience in key areas ahead of the new campaign. Dave will take over from current manager Sam Cohen after this season's final match away at Real Hydraquip II on Saturday 26th April.

First half double sees Horley win
Sporting Devils 0  Horley Town Casuals  2
An experimental Devils line-up turned in a promising performance despite going down to a 2-0 reverse against Horley Town Casuals.

Horley took the lead inside the opening minute as a shot that was going wide deflected off Marco Quasimodo and found the bottom corner. A second right on half-time clinched Horley the points.

Devils however will be pleased with the performance with both Marco and fellow debutant Aaron Chenery enjoying good games as Devils played some good football throughout. Phil Williamson who twice fired over after getting on the end of passes from Dave Carling had Devils best chances to get on the scoresheet.

Devils remain 5th in League B and next meet Blue on Friday 28th March, ko 7.30pm.

Second-half blitz sees XI swamped
Sporting Devils XI 3 Worth Park Rangers 8
The Devils XI's third loss on the spin came courtesy of a second-half drubbing against Worth Park Rangers at Bewbush West.

As was the case last week at Border, Devils enjoyed a good first half but could not find the finish to any one of a number of guilt-edged scoring opportunities and Worth Park went in at the break with a 1-0 lead courtesy of a header from a corner midway through the opening period.

After the break Worth Park stepped up the pace and steamrollered their way to a convincing win, doubling the lead on 50 minutes and then going 3-0 up moments later. It was 4-0 on the hour through a chipped finish on a one-on-one before Devils scored twice in two minutes to get it back to 4-2. The first came through an own goal after a scramble and Sam Cohen followed it up with a low drive from twelve yards.

Sam dragged wide a chance for a third before Worth Park restored their three goal lead with a low finish. Two more made it 7-2 before Aaron Chenery scored Devils third, five minutes from time. Worth Park wrapped up an 8-3 win in stoppage time as a rebound off the bar was turned in from six yards.

The XI have five matches remaining of the Devils first season in 11 aside football, the first of which is this Saturday (29th) against Rowfant Village. Kick-off at Bewbush Leisure Centre is 2.30pm.

Cohen strikes but XI beaten at Border
Border Wanderers  5  Sporting Devils XI  2
The Devils XI went down to defeat at Border Wanderers on Saturday (15th) after failing to build on a promising start at Court Lodge Road.

In the end the 5-2 scoreline continued the XI's testing debut season in the Crawley & District League but it might have been different had a very promising start been built on in this game. Devils had largely dominated the first 20 minutes but the game turned on an outstanding and spectacular opening goal by Border, volleyed into the net from 25 yards. Devils football in the first half was certainly one of the best halves of the season so far, however the fact Border went in at the break 3-1 up shows how important it is to make the most of the good periods of play. Border got stronger as the game went on and were good value for the three points.

Devils began well but should have tested Border's stand-in keeper much more in that opening spell. Border showed why they've scored a lot of goals since Christmas after this as the superbly taken first was followed by a counter attack tucked away from six yards and a long-range effort Phil should have done better with before the half hour.

Devils continued to make less of their chances with one melee finishing with Sam shooting straight at the keeper from eight yards but Sam atoned for this miss with a rasping finish into the roof of the net on the stroke of half-time.

The deficit was reduced to one on 65 minutes as a long-range shot rebounded in off Border's keeper but hopes of completing the comeback were quickly extinguished as Phil's one on one save rebounded back off the unlucky Ian Bradley for an own goal at the other end. A fifth fifteen minutes from time wrapped up the points for the home side.

Early strikes clinch Oblivion win
SD Oblivion 2 Hoathly 0
Peter Symons first goal for Oblivion and a fifth in four games for Luis Florez set Oblivion on the way to a fourth win in five games, against Hoathly.

Both goals were netted during an opening seven minutes where Oblivion took full advantage of Hoathly starting two men down and the lead stayed in tact throughout the game despite good pressure by the opposition during the second half.

Oblivion started fast, keen to maximise the numerical advantage and gained the lead when Pete stole in with a neatly slotted finish from a corner after three minutes. Then two minutes later Luis made it 2-0, finishing a good build up with a tidy finish into the corner.

Oblivion continued to press and had several opportunities to add a third before the remainder of the opposition turned up, creating a surreal change in the nature of the match from one being played on auto-pilot to one suddenly fully competitive.

After the break Hoathly began to push on with numbers seeking a way back into the match however Phil was on form with some important saves to maintain the two goal advantage. At the other end Alec Savigar came close to a third as he latched onto Luis' first time lay-off and hit a shot that the keeper tipped behind.

Oblivion stay 3rd in the Premiership and next meet McDonalds in the Premiership on Thursday (27th), ko 8pm.

Florez & Savigar sink Redi
SD Oblivion  2  Redi Rovers  0
Second half strikes by Luis Florez and Mike Savigar secured Oblivion a well deserved success against Redi Rovers on Thursday (13th).

It was a composed and impressive performance throughout by Oblivion who were well rewarded for a patient display with the two goals after half-time that clinched a seventh win of the season. Luis' fifth of the year continued his recent hot streak while Mike's sharp reaction finish earned the elder Savigar a well deserved goal to cap his MOTM performance.

After a first half that grew steadily in momentum the game stepped up after the break and after Dave Frampton had hit the post and Phil thwarted Redi at a corner Oblivion took the lead as Luis' powerful low shot squeezed it's way past the keeper's attempt to save it.

Oblivion continued to probe well and five minutes later netted a crucial second. Luis struck a low shot against the post and Mike reacted fastest to the rebound to steer his shot into the net past the grounded keeper.

With Pete and Stu in solid form at the back Oblivion looked for further goals and Alec Savigar almost grabbed a third, finishing a one-on-one with a shot guided against the underside of the bar.

Overload edged by champions Horley
SD Overload 0 Horley Haemaphrodites 1
Overload slipped behind Audi Allstars in the race for runners-up spot in the Championship after a narrow defeat to runaway league champions Horley Haemaphrodites.

A tight game was settled by a solitary strike midway through the first half. Dave Carling came closest for Overload, shooting wide as the Devils pressed for an equaliser.

Promotion rivals Audi gained a walkover win against West Green and with Audi enjoying on paper an easier run-in to the season, Overload look set to require wins against West Green, Misfits United, Tilgate and in the return against Haemaphrodites to pip Audi to 2nd spot.

Overload's have no game on Thursday (27th) after opponents West Green left the league, presenting Overload a 3-0 walkover win.

Overload back on form with Tilgate win
SD Overload  2  Tilgate  0
Goals from Nick Hawtin and Dave Carling secured Overload a potentially crucial win against Tilgate on Thursday (13th).

The race for promotion from the Championship is really hotting up and with defeats for Phoenix, Cunning Stunts and West Green it now looks like a straight two-way fight between Overload and Audi Allstars for a place in next season's top flight. Nick's clinical one-on-one finish in the first half and Dave's after the break put the seal on an excellent performance in this first of two games against Tilgate in the run-in.
